Devin Spence Dream BIG Foundation

From the time he could talk, Devin always showed extreme empathy for others. When Devin's brother Chase was born with a developmental disability, Devin seemed to know exactly how to interact with him and love him. As the oldest child, Devin was fiercely protective of Chase as well as his other 2 siblings, Travis and Aubrey. It seemed only natural that he join Best Buddies while at Winters Mill High School. He attended the Special Olympics in Carroll County every year in support of Chase and the other students with disabilities he had come to love. Devin loved to help people and make a difference. When he returned from a Mission trip to the Dominican Republic he said that it was "life-changing". He talked endlessly about the children he met there. Devin also started his own tutoring company in an effort to help students and adults who struggled with math. He knew how to break concepts down so they could be understood. As he continued his studies at Towson University, he had decided to become a teacher. He majored in Special education and math. He was hired to be a math teacher at Manchester Valley High School before he had even graduated. He was so excited. He also was an assistant Lacrosse coach, which he loved. He even helped out with the Ski Club even though he had never skied before, but they needed more teachers so he didn't hesitate. He often came home late because he tried to stay and support his students who had games as often as he could. It seemed like everything was working out exactly as it should be....until Feb.11, 2013. That was the day that Devin was in a terrible accident on his way to work and in the blink of an eye he was gone. Although he hadn't even been at Manchester Valley for a full year yet, the students, teachers, and community there were impacted greatly, and responded with many beautiful tributes to this amazing teacher, coach and friend. Devin always made everyone feel like they were very important to him...because they were. His family of course is devastated and is still trying to figure out how to continue on in the world without him. This Foundation is one of the ways we thought of to honor Devin's memory. He loved nothing more than to give to others. With the Devin Spence Dream BIG foundation, we hope to continue what Devin started. We hope to continue to help the students, groups, or organizations that were so important to Devin
