9 1/2 years ago I married my best friend and we have been together for 15 years now. Flash back to 2 years, 11 months ago...Wes received a double lung transplant thanks to the generosity of our donor Rusty. When you are told the lungs would give you 5-10 years we were hoping for the 10. Unfortunately that was not God's plan. August this year we were given the news that Wes's body had started rejecting the lungs. All of the advanced treatment methods were performed with little to no change. On December 5th Wes was admitted to have a feeding tube placed. During the stay his breathing became labored. He was put on a Cpap machine December 12th and at that point he could no longer breathe on his own, was intubated, and placed on a breathing machine. After 4 days in the ICU Wes was off the breathing machine and moved to another floor. He seemed to be doing a little better but has again begun to have labored breathing. He is now back on the Cpap machine and we are waiting to be transferred again. Hopkins has informed us they will not be listing him for another transplant but we have 3 other hospitals considering it. No decisions have been made and in time Wes and I will decide which direction we will be headed. Our journey has been a road with lots of potholes but we are strong, strong as a team and when you think you have lost your best friend you know each day is now a gift from God. Wes is a fighter and I have faith that he will continue to fight through this.
As you can imagine, the financial costs of his treatments are mounting, including missed work for both Wes & Jen as she has been constantly by his side and he has been unable to work since October and is still without disability approval. If you would like to contribute toward offsetting their financial burden then please click the link below. It is a tangible way that they can feel our love, support and prayers. It is also a way to ease their anxiety so that they can focus on getting Wes well again.
