The purpose of the Kristin Spurrier memorial scholarship is to honor Kristin's memory and provide a scholarship to a female athlete in Carroll County who shares the same love for sports that Kristin did. She started playing t-ball as a child through the TANEYTOWN rec. center and continued to play softball and basketball for Francis Scott Key High School where she graduated in 2009. Kristin had a passion for life, for sports, and for Jesus. She attended Uniontown Bible Church for many years. At the time of her passing she worked as a dental assistant and she was pursuing a career in dental hygiene. Kristin struggled with an opiate addiction that started in high school and was able to beat it for a while only to relapse at the age of 25 where her life came to a tragic end. Kristin had a personality that would light up an entire room, a contagious smile and a love for Jesus that she shared with everyone who knew her. This scholarship will be awarded to a student who shares her enthusiasm for sports and love for others. The goal is for our youth to be successful and continue their education and rise above the temptation to experiment with drugs, which has become an epidemic that is taking the lives of our precious children. |
